We are currently accepting applications for substitute teachers and aides.  Our current rate of pay is $110 per day for substitute teachers and $15.13 per hour for aides.

 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

 

There are two ways to qualify to be a substitute teacher:

  • possess teacher certification from the New Jersey Department of Education
  • have completed at least 30 credits at an accredited college or university

If you are not certified but have completed at least 30 college credits, you are eligible to apply for a substitute teaching credential from the NJ Department of Education.  The credential costs $125 and is valid for five (5) years.  THIS FEE IS WAIVED IF APPLICATION IS MADE BY JUNE 30, 2024.  Detailed instructions for applying are available in our Superintendent's Office.

 

A substitute teacher assists with classroom instruction in the absence of a regular teacher.  This person follows and teaches lesson plans, aids students in understanding subject matter, and ensures that regular classroom routines are followed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful instruction in assigned classrooms while the regular teacher is absent
  • Review and implement regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment
  • Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
  • Perform other duties as directed by school administration

 

SUBSTITUTE AIDE

 

The Paraprofessional shall:

  1. Assist the teacher with classroom instructional tasks as assigned.
  2. Work with students individually and in small groups to assist with the learning of content and skills introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assist the teacher with clerical work, record keeping, preparation of instructional materials, set up of learning centers, preparation of displays and bulletin boards, and other non-instructional tasks as assigned.
  4. Assist the teacher and students with cleanup from activities.
  5. Assist the teacher with supervision of students.
  6. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
  7. Help to facilitate co-op learning groups.
  8. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  9. Help student’s master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  10. Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
  11. Assist the teacher in the correction and feedback on student work.
  12. Check notebooks, correct papers and supervise testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.

The General Aide shall:

  1. Prepare and deliver information or materials to offices or classrooms.
  2. Assist staff members with clerical work, recordkeeping, preparation of displays and bulletin boards, and other non-instructional tasks as assigned.
  3. Prepare materials for copying and distribute them as assigned.
  4. Assist with supervision of students during lunch, recess, arrival and dismissal as assigned.
  5. Participate in in-service training as assigned.
  6. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  7. Be sensitive to and assist students with special needs. Consult with the supervisor for any clarification or assistance.
  8. Maintain the orderly arrangement of materials, equipment, furnishings, etc. within the school.
  9. Communicate to teachers and/or administration any unusual situations or needs of students. Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, or controlled substances.
  10. Assist teachers and/or administration in handling interruptions and emergencies.
  11. Maintain a safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
